Mr. James Lee Sprout, Sr., 74, entered into rest Friday, October 20, 2017 after losing his battle with heart and kidney disease. He was preceded in death by parents, Audice Lee Sprout and Emma Pauline Hawkins Sprout, his sister, Janet Sprout Danner, and his second wife, Zena Brown Sprout. Mr. Sprout is survived by his wife, Dorothy Estep Sprout of Martinez, GA, his children, Diane Sprout Zerga (Chris) of Spring Creek, NV, James Lee Sprout, Jr, (Jennifer) of Elko, NV, and Andrew Estep-Sprout of Martinez, GA, grandchildren, Joshua Zerga of Spring Creek, NV, Emma Sprout of Elko, NV, Allie Ford of Elko, NV, and Connor Ford of Elko, NV, along with his first wife Sharon Rose Kennedy, and his brother-in-law William Danner. Mr. Sprout graduated from Wheeling High School in Wheeling, WV and attended college for a year before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served 3 years of active duty, including one tour in Vietnan, then served in the National Guard Reserves for 7 years. After he was discharged from active duty, he trained as a plumber and worked as a master plumber for over 35 years. After retiring from full-time work, he worked part-time as a courtsey clerk at the Kroger in Evans, GA. He loved all sports and was an avid fan of the Pittsburg Steelers, Pirates, and Peguins. He worked as a baseball umpire for the Columbia County Recreation Department and Martinez-Evans Little League. He was also a member of the Georgia High School Association for Sports Officials. He umpired baseball and officiated football for local middle school, J V, and high school teams.
