Southlawn Cemetery
Starts at 12:00 pm (Eastern time)
James Arthur Parker Jr., lovingly known to many as “Diamond Jim,” passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 25, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born on July 3, 1937, in Sumter, South Carolina, James spent most of his life in New Ellenton, South Carolina, where he built a life centered around family, friendship, and hard work.
James dedicated much of his career as a skilled sheet metal worker and was a proud member of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 399 out of Charleston, South Carolina, from 1965 until his retirement from the Savannah River Site (SRS).
James never met a stranger and was known as a friend to all. He had a larger-than-life personality, a love for automobiles and vehicles of all kinds, and was an avid golfer who cherished time on the course. Above all, he was a deeply beloved father, grandfather, and “Papa,” whose presence brought joy, laughter, and love to those around him.
He is survived by his children: James A. Parker III (Linda) of Sumter, South Carolina; Jeanie Shaw (David) of Columbia, South Carolina; Melissa Parker Martin (Randy Martin) of Liberty, South Carolina; Jack Parker (Cherie) of Lilburn, Georgia; and Ann Parker of Colbert, Georgia; his siblings, Sylvia Ann Robertson, Beverly Parker Monaco, George Allen Parker, and Donald Ray Parker; 15 grandchildren, including the late Emily Anne Parker; and 18 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service to celebrate James’s life will be held Friday, May 29, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Southlawn Cemetery, 4524 Whiskey Road, Aiken, South Carolina.
James will be remembered for his warm heart, quick smile, generous spirit, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness and friendship. His legacy lives on in the family he adored and in the memories shared by all who knew and loved him.
