Obituary

Mr. James "Jim" John Hedgis, beloved husband of 65 years to Georgia Hedgis, entered into rest Friday, January 18, 2019 at University Hospital. Mr. Hedgis was born August 16, 1930 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY to the late Nicholas and Calliope Hedgis. Mr. Hedgis graduated from Ft. Hamilton High School and New York University with a degree in Business Administration. He retired from Continental Plastics Container in 1996 and moved to Georgia to be closer to their children. He was the president and long standing member of the AHEPA, American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association. He was a longtime and faithful Yankees fan. Mr. Hedgis enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, discussing politics, and spending time with family. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, where he was a member. Father Vasile Bitere will be officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. He was preceded in death by a sister, Liberty Harris. In addition to Mr. Hedgis's wife, he is also survived by a daughter, Debbie Callan (Dr. Richard Callan, Sr.), of Evans, GA; a son, Nick Hedgis of Evans, GA; 7 grandchildren, Danielle Starcher (Andy), Jessica Williams (Mark), Dr. Richard S. Callan, Jr. (Katherine), Sarah Hedgis Kilgerman (Roger), Kursten Hedgis, James Hedgis (Cora), and Molly Hedgis, 5 great grandchildren, Ella, Olivia, Henry, Katelyn, and Caroline; a brother, Nick Hedgis of Malverne, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 953 Telfair St., Augusta, GA 30901. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 23, 2019 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Thomas L.
