Obituary

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Colonel (Ret.) Graham A. Logan Jr., husband to Nell C. Logan, deceased, entered into rest August 11, 2014. Col. Logan (90) and Nell were both natives of Selma, Alabama. Upon graduating from high school in 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. During World War II, he was assigned to the 453rd Bomber Group (Heavy), 8th Army Air Corps Europe as a door gunner and radio operator on the B-24 Aircraft. The 453rd, activated June 1943, commenced combat missions February 1944. Their mission was chiefly bombing strategic targets over Europe. Notably, the 453rd flew numerous missions during the Normandy D-Day Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. Col. Logan was selected for Infantry Officers Candidate School Fort Benning, Ga. in 1946. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant (Signal Corps) in 1947, he served in Japan and then Korea, during the Korean War. Subsequently, he served a tour assigned Rycom Command on Okinawa. He continued his distinguished career having assignments with Department of the Army HQ Pentagon, The Army Caribbean Signal Agency, Puerto Rico, and Combined Arms Group Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. In 1966 Col. Logan was assigned to STRATCOM-SEA Republic of Vietnam, after which he was assigned to Kirkland AFB. Colonel Logan concluded his military career in 1971 while assigned to U.S. Army Southeastern Signal School, Fort Gordon, Ga. Afterwards he worked in Army Civilian Personal managing the Non-appropriated Fund Department, Ft. Gordon, until his full retirement in 1992. Colonel Logan is survived by two sons, their families, consisting of seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Friday, August 15 at the King Funeral Home. Service and burial, with Full Military Honors, will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
