Obituary

Frances Eugenia Turner age 77, passed away at her home on Thursday, November 21, 2024.

Born in Augusta, Georgia, Frances was the beloved daughter of Paul Webster Turner, Sr., and Eugenia Powell Turner. She grew up in Augusta, where she developed a strong sense of community and family values. A proud graduate of Butler High School, Class of 1965, Frances carried the friendships and lessons learned there throughout her life. Shortly after high school, Frances married, but her joy was tempered by loss when he was tragically killed in the Vietnam War. Despite this heartbreak, she found love again and remarried, dedicating herself to building a life filled with family and purpose. Together with her husband, Frances helped run his family business and began her greatest journey—raising her son, John. With an adventurous spirit and deep faith, Frances and her family traveled throughout the Southeast, spreading the Word of God. Eventually, they returned to Augusta, where she planted roots and played a pivotal role in the local community by establishing several businesses, including The Daniel Village Florist. Her creative talents and entrepreneurial spirit left a lasting impact on those who knew her. Frances also believed in lifelong learning. In 1993, she returned to school, earning her Associate of Applied Science in 1995. Not stopping there, she achieved dual Bachelor's degrees in Criminal Justice and Sociology by 1997. During this time, she interned with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, where her dedication and passion for public service blossomed. Following graduation, she joined the Sheriff's Office, where she worked until her retirement in 2012. She chose to step away from her career to care for her ailing parents, demonstrating her deep sense of family and selflessness. Frances was a passionate traveler, exploring destinations ranging from Israel to Niagara Falls. A true cruise enthusiast, she loved embarking on adventures and sharing them with anyone who dared to join her. She was a firm believer that life was meant to be lived to the fullest, and her journeys were a testament to that philosophy. Frances was even preparing for another cruise to depart for in just two weeks. Those who knew Frances fondly remember her as a captivating storyteller. Whether recounting tales from her years at the Sheriff's Office or her escapades from cruising, she had a gift for drawing people in with humor and vivid detail. Her laughter and warmth lingered long after the stories were told, creating memories cherished by all.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Eugenia Turner, as well as her sister, Patricia Ann Turner. She is survived by her devoted son and daughter-in-law, John M. McElroy II and Michelle McElroy; her adoring grandchildren, Baker (Kayla) and Mackenzie; her brother, Paul W. Turner, Jr., and his wife, Linda; and close friend Gloria Francis who she loved very much.

Frances's legacy is one of love, resilience, and an unwavering sense of adventure. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
