Dr. Everett H. Schultz, Jr., aged 98, of Augusta, GA. died October 11th, 2025. He was born in Winston-Salem, NC, to Everett H. and Etta Transou Schultz. During high school he reported high school sports for the Winston-Salem Journal, whence he acquired the nickname “Scoop” that hung on most of his life. He volunteered and served in the U. S. Navy during World War 2.
He attended the University of North Carolina, and received his M. D. degree in 1952 from Wake Forest University, where he was named to AOA, the medical honor society. After post-graduate training at the University of Oklahoma and UNC, he became board certified in radiology. After a post-residency year in Boston, he practiced his specialty for 37 years, including private practice in St. Petersburg, FL, and academic appointments at the University of Florida, UNC, and the Medical College of Georgia. He authored more than 20 scientific publications, and spoke at national and regional societies. For twenty years he was an editorial consultant to the Yearbook of Cancer. A Fellow of the American College of Radiology, he was listed in American Men of Science.
He was survived briefly by Nancy Jansson Schultz, his wife and beloved companion since 1955, four children: Susan Schultz of Atlanta, GA; Frank Schultz of Atlanta, GA; Janet Helmick of Florence, AL; and Sally Holmes of Birmingham, AL; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. John L. Schultz of Winston-Salem, NC. He was predeceased by siblings Betty Jane Solely and Thomas E. Schultz.
He enjoyed golf and bridge, and spent many leisure hours gardening. He was an avid reader (sometimes reading more than 70 books a year plus magazines and medical journals), member of Mensa, a critical thinker, honest, and a man of few words. He provided well for his family, and supported his children in all their endeavors.
