Dorothy Mixon Smitherman

Dorothy Mixon Smitherman, 76, of Martinez, passed away on April 28, 2026.

Dorothy was a lifelong resident of the Augusta area and a 1969 graduate of Evans High School. She was a very simple lady. She enjoyed going to estate sales looking for bargains, especially finding a new book to read. She also delighted in sewing and crocheting. Taking a road trip was always a highlight of her day especially riding in Shannons 1966 Chevrolet pickup. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Thelma and Willie Mixon; her husband Robert “Bob” Smitherman Sr.; and her brothers, Bill and Joe Mixon.

Survivors include her children, Grady Smitherman, Rebbie Roy (Kris), and Robin Reed (Brandon); her brother, David Mixon; grandchildren, A.J. Stewart and Layla Smitherman; and extended family members, Jessica Hohneke, Shannon Willis, Miles Miskelly and Austin Hohneke.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Thomas L. King Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tim Smart officiating. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Thomas L. King Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations be made to Shepeard Blood Center which held a special place in her heart, an animal rescue of your choice, the Children’s Hospital, or to a charity of your choice.

The family also kindly request everyone dress casually and comfortably for the services.
