Obituary

Dorothy Ann Bourbo (née Melchionna) July 2, 1935 – August 4, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorothy Ann Bourbo, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Dorothy passed away peacefully in her home on August 4, 2024, at the age of 89.

Born on July 2, 1935, in New York, New York, Dorothy was the cherished daughter of Adam and Gladys Melchionna. Her early years in New York City shaped her unique personality, and she never lost the city's trademark sarcasm and demeanor, even as she spent much of her life in the South. On August 13, 1954, Dorothy enlisted in the United States Army, where she met the love of her life, Robert Edward Bourbo Sr. They married in 1955 and began a lifelong journey together, welcoming five children: Robert Edward Bourbo Jr. (wife Angela Bourbo), William Daniel Bourbo (deceased), David Neil Bourbo Sr. (wife Pamela Bourbo), Jeffrey Scott Bourbo (deceased), and Holly Denise Bourbo (husband Brant Smith). Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Nicole Smith, Heather Price, David Neil Bourbo Jr., Rebecca Bourbo, Jeffrey Scott Bourbo, and Jordan Bourbo.

Dorothy was a proud veteran and a devoted military spouse who dedicated her time and energy to volunteering with the Red Cross and coaching women's sports teams. Her passion for serving others was evident throughout her life. Later, she became a small business owner, yet her greatest joy was always her family, to whom she was unconditionally loving and supportive. Known for her kindness and generosity, Dorothy was a loyal friend and a beacon of acceptance to all who knew her. Her favorite saying, "to know me is to love me," captured her spirit and the warmth she brought into the lives of others.

Dorothy is survived by her loving sister, Teri Rosen, and her brother, Adam (AJ) Melch. She joins her beloved husband, Robert Sr., and her sons William and Jeffrey in eternal rest. Dorothy will be laid to rest in a private graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please make a donation to your charity of choice. Her family encourages all who knew and loved her to remember Dorothy's remarkable life and the love and joy she brought to those around her.
