Obituary

APPLING, Ga. - Donnie Wayne Powell or "Dumplin" was an astonishing out of this world guy. A funny old man with a big ole heart. He could make friends with just about anybody he met. He'd put smiles on their faces and joy in their hearts. He was definitely a family man by the way he loved spending time with his best friends who are practically his brothers and family that he loved so very much also his dog, Duke "Little Boy" and his cat, Tom. Donnie was the kind of guy that was always about having a good time. His idea of the perfect party is at his lake house watching the Georgia Bulldawgs game and being with his friends and family just grilling out and having a few Budweiser's, but in all honesty the man was a party all by himself. Donnie was also an outdoors man , when it came to hunting season you would almost have to drag him out of the woods because he loved it so much. If anybody came to his house he'd be outside enjoying the day pass just watching the lake be calm and steady and everybody he knows would like to believe that sweet old man is doing that right now. Donnie was the son of Jewel Slotin and the late Johnnie Powell and is survived by his wife, Beth Powell, sister, Brenda Dansby, his three daughters DeDe Ellis, Kelli Anglin, Nikki Shaw, and six grandchildren. This tribute to his life was written by his beloved granddaughter, Alanna. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m., at Thomas L. King Funeral Home.
