Dewey James "Jim" Morris

Dewey James Morris (Jim) April 30, 1951 – June 10, 2026

Dewey James Morris, 75, of Martinez, Georgia, went on to glory on June 10, 2026.

Born in East Liverpool, Ohio, he was the son of Dewey L. Morris and Pearl L. Morris and spent most of his life in Martinez, Georgia. Jim earned recognition as an acolyte at the United Methodist Church, was awarded by the Boy Scouts, the God & Country Medal, received the Americare Million Dollar Sales Award from American Republic Insurance Co., held an NHRA membership, became proud father in the summer of 1976, and later operated a small business, "Jim's Paint Service," painting and restoring sailboats at the Augusta Sailing Club. He was known for his winning smile, his love for his boys, and his steadfast faith in Jesus Christ, whom he shared with just about everyone.

Besides being a born-again Christian, Jim was a real American who loved his country. If the National Anthem was playing, he'd be standing, hand over heart—and so would his boys. He'd make sure of it. He never missed a chance to vote either, as he called it, "doing his civic duty."

For Jim, American life was also about enjoying passions and serving others. He loved sailing, scuba diving, drag racing, country dancing, running, cycling, playing pool, attending concerts, camping, dogs, and spending time talking with friends. He faithfully volunteered for Columbia County Rescue and was a member of Midland Valley Church of the Nazarene, where he served as a greeter and an usher. In his later years, he dedicated time helping at Project Life, a ministry of New Life Church that provides food and clothing to those in need.

His favorite saying was, “The truth shall set you free.” He found comfort and strength in The Lord’s Prayer, John 3:16, and Psalm 23.

Jim is survived by former spouse and his 1st son James Raymond Morris, and four beloved grandchildren, former spouse Connie Donnan, and their children: Cory James Morris, Nicholas Wade Morris, and Vincent Michael Morris; and forever friend for over 20 years, Debra Strickland.

A viewing will be held at 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m., at New Life Church, 215 Lewiston Road, Grovetown, Georgia 30813. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jim will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.
