David Lavon Neal, age 74, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, November 27, 2023.

David was born December 20, 1948 the son of Everett L. Neal and Sabrina K. Neal (Wray) in Indiana. David graduated with his BS in Education from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

Although he held various jobs throughout his life, his passion was teaching middle school science. He was beloved by his students for his unique and creative approach to instruction.

David's abundant creativity overflowed into his life outside of the classroom as well. While living in Ft Myers, Florida, he had what he described as having a "spiritual connection to the manatee". His largest body of paintings centered around that connection.

Painting was not his only artistic expression. He dabbled in writing and illustrating children's books and also loved music. His family and friends have many fond memories of Dave singing his favorite songs while playing acoustic guitar. He had a unique, sometimes twisted, sense of humor that will be missed.

David was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, husband, and friend.

David was predeceased by Everett L. Neal (father), Sabrina K. Neal (mother), and Sandra K. Neal (sister).

David is survived by his two daughters, Emily and Erin Neal; his four grandchildren, Miette Neal-Bellamy (Angel Salas Benavides), Phoenix Neal, Job Bellamy, and Connor Holliman; the mother of his children, Sharon A. Neal; his niece and nephew, Jason Leach and Angela Mann; and his nephew by marriage, Geoff Walburn.

David will be forever in our hearts and greatly missed.

I'm gonna shake God's hand

Thank him for more blessings than one man can stand

Then I'm gonna get a guitar and start a rock and roll band

Check into a swell hotel,

ain't the afterlife grand?
