Claude William Farmer, Jr., 86, entered into rest on Friday, September 22, 2023.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dr. Martha Farmer; his son, Claude Farmer III of Seattle and his family, Peng Peng Farmer, and children Will Farmer IV, Kate Farmer and her son Owen Farmer, and Erin Farmer; and his daughter, Andrea Bustos of Augusta, and her family, Rod Bustos, and their children, Sergio Bustos, Alex Bustos, and Daniel Bustos; as well as his nieces and nephews, Vicki Farmer, Ben Hand, Bené Weems, and Shay Hand; and many great-nieces and great-nephews and extended family.

Claude rose from poverty in rural Alabama, becoming the first in his family to attend college, which he did passionately at the University of Alabama—one of his lifelong loves, along with his wife, Martha, and golf. In his time at the University, he earned a BS and MS in accounting and became part of history, supporting the racial integration of the University when he assisted in the registration of James Hood, one of the first African-American students to attend the institution.

Claude was a father, grandfather, husband, friend, and veteran. He will be remembered by all for his love of college football—especially Alabama—and his love of golf and the Augusta National.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 2, 2023, in the chapel at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, 124 Davis Road, Martinez GA 30907, with Chaplain Robert Thompson officiating, immediately followed by interment with military honors at Westover Memorial Park, 2601 Wheeler Road, Augusta GA 30904. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.
