Charles Edward Powell, affectionately known as Chuck or "Papa Chuck", passed away on May 9, 2026.

A kind and sweet soul, Charles was known for his unwavering readiness to lend a hand, his great sense of humor, and his deep devotion as a family man. His presence brought warmth and laughter to those around him, and he will be remembered with great affection and respect.

Charles dedicated a significant portion of his life to public service, working as a correctional officer at the Augusta State Medical Prison. He later continued his commitment to serving others in his role with the U.S. Post Office. Beyond his professional life, Charles was passionate about music. He enjoyed playing the guitar and had a deep love for rock music, especially bands such as KISS, Van Halen, and Def Leppard. His thoughtful nature extended into his personal life, where he was known as a great and thoughtful gift giver, always considering the joy of those he cherished.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Diane Powell; his children, Ariel Estella Tipper and Charlie Powell (Myleen); and his sisters, Laura Sellars (Ricky) and Gia Hegre (Mark). Charles also leaves behind precious grandchildren, Amanda Tipper and Charles Edward Powell III, who held a special place in his heart. Along with his immediate family, Charles is fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and other loved ones whose lives he touched deeply.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, George and Estella Ruth Powell; his brother, Wade Powell; and his daughter, Amanda Nicole Powell.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 18, 2026 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Thomas L. King Funeral Home. Funeral Servies will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 19, 2026 in the Thomas L. King Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens
