Catherine Ashley, born on January 9, 1938, peacefully passed away on March 25, 2026. She will be remembered with deep respect and affection by all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and joy.
Catherine devoted over 30 years to her career as a bus driver at Fort Gordon, faithfully serving her community with commitment and care. Her work ethic and warm spirit endeared her to colleagues and passengers alike.
Beyond her professional life, Catherine cherished many hobbies and pastimes that brought joy to her days. She loved playing and working Bingo at the American Legion, an activity that not only entertained her but also connected her with friends and neighbors. Catherine found great pleasure in visiting Cherokee to enjoy the excitement of the casino. Throughout her life, she held a profound love for her family and friends, always treasuring the relationships she nurtured. In particular, she was very grateful to her neighbors, Mary and Luis Hernandez, for their invaluable support and kindness following the passing of her beloved son.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Coleman; grandchildren—Carrie Newman (Michael), Shannon Manners, and Jennifer Ashley—along with her great-grandchildren—Shane Newman, Alicia Grimuad (Andy), Ashlyn Newman, Riley Manners, Drew Manners, and Byron Hill; and her great-great-grandchild, Charleigh D. Grimuad.
Catherine is preceded in death by her son, Jerry Ashley; her parents, Will Henry Holmes and Margaret Rowe Holmes; her sister, Margaret Holmes; and her brothers, John Holmes, Francis Holmes, Ro Holmes, and Jimmy Holmes. Their memories live on in the hearts of all who loved them.
The family invites all who knew Catherine to honor her memory at a visitation held on March 29, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Thomas L. King Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A funeral service will follow on March 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the Thomas L. King Funeral Home Chapel with Valerie Levesque officiating. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Catherine Ashley’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to family, her joyful participation in community life, and her enduring kindness. Her memory will continue to be cherished by those who were fortunate to know her, reminding us all of the power of love, gratitude, and friendship.
