Obituary

Carlene Johnson passed on July 1, 2026. Born on February 24, 1956, she was the only child of Marvin & Jacquline Overman. She was born in Augusta, Ga., and lived a happy and rewarding life in Martinez, Evans and Aiken.

Carlene received her RN degree in 1981 from Augusta College. In 1977 she began her RN career at Doctors Hospital on 2 West, a GYN floor and stayed there for 12 years, then spent another 6 years working the float pool. In 1987 she started at University Hospital in labor & delivery, where she stayed for 23 years. She loved being a nurse and followed the motto "Treat patients as you would want to be treated".

In 1979, she married her highschool sweetheart, Jeffery Moser. They were married for 13 years and had two wonderful children, Justin Allen and Lauren Jaclyn. In 1996 she Married Andrew Johnson. When he proposed, he promised her a horse, a trip to Germany to see the Neuschwanstein Castle and a move to Aiken where they would build a home and a barn that she designed. At 43, Carlene finally got her very own horse, Ivan, who she loved dearly followed by two more horses, Riva and Hippona. These were the happiest years of her life. Andy was a wonderful husband and they enjoyed their little 9 acre farm for 10 years until his death in 2014.

Carlene retired after 32 years of nursing in 2011, so that her and Andy could travel before he got too ill with prostate cancer. They traveled to Alaska, Greece, Ireland, Germany and the Caribbean islands as well as the U.S. to New Orleans, Vegas, San Diego, New England, Houston, Chicago and Baton Rouge. After 5 years on the farm without Andy, she decided to trade in hard- working farm life for Woodside Plantation. She enjoyed meeting new friends playing cards and Mahjong, going to lunch and participating in many activities. She volunteered at the Aiken Animal Shelter and Equine Rescue for many years. She loved being a member of Aiken Newcomers, Town and Country, WOW singles and the CSRA vegetarian society.

In November 2023, she was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine tumors also called NET's. By then, it had already spread to the liver. From then on, she appreciated every day of her remaining life.

She said the hardest part of dying was leaving behind those she loved so much, which included her mother, her two children, five grandchildren and many friends and family. She is survived by Justin (Erin) Moser and their two daughters; Isla and Geneva, her daugher Lauren (Jacob) Gray and their three sons; Maxim, Ryker and Bastian, her mother Jacquline Overman and her feline companion, Katie.

Carlene loved animals and became a vegetarian in 1984. After Andy's death she became vegan. She found comfort in knowing she did not contribute to the suffering of animals and lived by the saying "Take no life for granted".

A celebration of life will be announced.
