Mrs. Betty Sue Williams McKinnon, age 89, died Monday, March 13, 2023. She was born May 13, 1933, in Sanford, NC, to the late Luther B. Williams and Connie Hood Williams, and was the wife of the late G. Boyd McKinnon, Jr.

Betty Sue graduated with a degree in Education from Appalachian State Teachers College (now Appalachian State University) in Boone, NC. Upon her move from NC to GA, she taught 2nd grade for 32 years at Evans Consolidated and Belair Elementary. In addition to her love of teaching, she was an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, a lover of music, and an avid defender of all animals as she was known to rescue strays from parking lots, hospitals, and roadsides. If you were ever to have met her, you would also know that she enjoyed a good conversation and would know your life story within fifteen minutes of meeting you.

Betty Sue is survived by her son, Gilliam "Gil" McKinnon III (Kathy), and goddaughters, Susan Roberts (David) and Charlese Stone (Chris). Although not technically family, she had a large adoptive family who considered her one of their own and loved her as such, as well as numerous decades-long friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty Sue is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Emma McKinnon; lifelong friends, Sue Brewer, Celia Faye Featherstone, and Barbara Anne McKinnon; as well as close friends, Robert Hunt and Keil Alderson.

A memorial service for Betty Sue will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 3551 Wheeler Road, Augusta, GA 30909, with Reverend Ed Reese officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time.
