Obituary

Aubrey R. Pancake, Sr. Tennille, Georgia-Aubrey R. Pancake Sr., age 81, entered the arms of our cherished Lord on March 6, while being surrounded by many loved ones. Born April 12, 1938, in Tennille, Georgia, to an amazing unity of parents, Harry F. and Annie L. Pancake, who preceded him in death. Also preceded in death by a son, Aubrey R. Pancake, Jr., his two brothers, Frankie and Gerald Pancake, his sister, Jackie Williams, and his dearest friend, John "Red" Price. He is survived by his loving wife, "Precious", Nellie E. Pancake of 56 years, two daughters, Teresa (Mike) Durand, Sheila (Terry) Huffman, three grandchildren, Kelley (Wally) Dukes, Daniel Singletary, and Stephanie Huffman, a "heart felt adopted" great granddaughter, Lily Morrison, and many nieces and nephews who loved and cherished him dearly. Most of all, he is survived by his most loved companion and fur-baby, "Socks", the cat. In 1956, while still in high school, he enlisted into the Army Reserves and then transferring into the Naval Reserves as an Aircraft Technician at Warner Robbins Air Force Base. Continuing his love for his country, in 1966, he transferred to Fort Gordon, GA as an Electronical Engineer Instructor. From a very early age, Pancake adapted to the task of "tinkering" from his Dad and began disassembling and assembling bicycles, lawnmowers, old cars, radios, and anything he could find to tear apart. Starting his life as a mechanic he began working at Macon Harley Davidson, Macon, GA for Grover Sassman. As his military enlistment ended in Augusta, GA, he became an independent entrepreneur as a local pool hall owner prior to moving onto Pancake's Automotive Repair shop. Still not feeling satisfied, he left his business to explore motorcycle mechanics again with Vic's Harley Davidson, Augusta, GA. Realizing "tinkering" on motorcycles was his true passion, he took the $36 in his pocket and opened his own motorcycle repair shop in a single wide trailer next to his home at Faircloth's trailer park in 1975. As word and reputation exceeded his expectations, he was forced to move to a larger establishment, leading to the creation of "The Motorcycle Palace" on Wheeler Road. Martinez, GA in April 1976. So many cherished memories were made there, from deer stews, poker runs, gatherings, and less not forget, the Saturday morning Cakesters Coffee Club, where everyone would gather at the "Palace" to shoot the breeze and reminisce of good times. "NO SERVICE WORK ON SATURDAYS". Forty-three years, reluctantly, Pancake retired. During his lifetime, he was one of the original members of the Columbia County Rescue Team, a member of the Masonic Lodge 710, the Scottish Rite, the Augusta Shrine Club, and the Alee Temple of Savannah, GA. He attended "The Sanctuary" in Evans, GA. The family would like to express Special Thanks to Heartland Hospice, Mary Kirkland, Rick Pate, and Melinda Carter. Also, special thanks to Dr. Carmel Joseph and his staff for the compassionate care provided. Pallbearers are Michael Guay, Tom Heffernan, Ken Krucina, Rick SanMiguel, Jason Stewart, Scott Stewart, and Brian Strickland. Honorary Pallbearers are Don Burlingham, KC Cooter, Royce Hoffman, Richard Lee, Sam Navarre, and Tony White. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Bellevue Memorial Chapel with Pastors Bryan Cockrell, Ray Reynolds, and Roger Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens. The family will graciously receive flowers or memorial donations can be made to his loving wife at P.O. Box 43, Grovetown, GA 30813. Thomas L.
