Mary “Alyce” Landis, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. Born March 13, 1946, in Jenkins County, Georgia, Alyce attended Jenkins County High School before moving to Augusta, Georgia where she pursued her passion for beauty and style by obtaining her cosmetology license. She began her long career at J.B. White’s and later fulfilled her dream of entrepreneurship by opening Shear Magic Styling Salon in Augusta, which she operated for many years before relocating her successful business to Hephzibah, Georgia. Her skill and commitment to her clients developed into life-long friendships.
Alyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly thirty years, Edward Leon Landis, her maternal grandparents Claude and Susie Womack, her parents Doy and Mary Mons and her brother Kenneth Mons.
She is survived by her loving family: Son: Joe Brady (Sam) of Millen, GA; Daughters: Tracey Pruitt (Scott) of Sylvania, GA; Dana Opperlee (Bobby) of Hephzibah, GA; Granddaughter: Fallon Brett(Clay) of North Augusta, SC; Granddaughter: Sierra Opperlee of Hephzibah, GA; Stepson: Edward Leon Landis (Lisa) of Winfield, WV; Step-Grandson: Edward Leon Landis III, Redhouse, WV; Step-Great Grandson Edward Leon Landis IV of Redhouse, WV
Known affectionately as “Ummama” to her granddaughters and “covy”, Alyce embodied unwavering love, steadfast support, and an unshakeable faith in God. In recent years, she was devoted to avidly watching golf and football (Georgia Bulldogs & Kansas City Chiefs). Her legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family.
