IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Allen Preston
King, Sr.
December 15, 1941 – June 20, 2024
Allen Preston King, Sr. (82) passed away peacefully surrounded by his family into the presence of his Savior on June 20, 2024.
He was born on December 15, 1941 to John Thomas and Beatrice W. King in Augusta, Georgia. He graduated from the Academy of Richmond County.
Allen went to work after high school for Augusta Union Station in the yard. He then went to work at Southern Railway and Norfolk Southern until he retired in March 2000. He also helped his brother, Tommy, at Thomas L. King Funeral Home when he was starting his business. Allen was a faithful member of Acacia Lodge #315 in North Augusta, where he served as secretary for many years. He also was a member of The Scottish Rite Lodge of Freemasonry in Augusta where he was presented with his 33rd degree. He was a member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church for many years and served as a deacon and sang in the choir. In his later years, he was a member of First Baptist of North Augusta.
Allen, who was affectionally called Kingfish, absolutely adored his family and friends. He and Nancy would go to their camper in the North Georgia mountains whenever they could. You would find them there from March-November visiting their friends on the golf cart, helping out with a get-together at the pavilion, and assisting campers with projects. He loved to help others any way he could. He also wouldn't turn down an opportunity to jump in the fishing van to go fishing in the streams in the area for trout. Wouldn't leave until he reached his limit for the day. Then it was time for a fish fry!
He and Nancy attended "boat church" at Moccasin Creek on any beautiful Sunday morning. He loved helping others and giving his time to make things better for his camper friends. He also loved going to the Brosnan Forest with his family for many years. He thought it was such a beautiful and special place. Skeet shooting with Preston and the grandsons and fishing in the lakes for bass, catfish, and crappie were his favorite things to do.
Allen is survived by his wife, Nancy T. King, whom he spent 61 years sharing life with, his daughter, Debra Getsinger (Neal) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and his son, Preston King (Missy) of North Augusta. He also had three grandsons, Trey King (Ellen), Zachary Getsinger (Jessica), and Tyler King. He was blessed to have four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Birdie, Brooks, and Cannon, and was very excited to have another one on the way, and sisters-in-law Nancy Foster and Patsy King. He was predeceased by his parents, John Thomas and Beatrice W. King, two brothers, Thomas L. King and Phillip Wayne King, and a nephew Tommy King.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00pm on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, 124 Davis Road, Martinez GA 30907.
